Generational strength even from those passed on is central to the protagonist, Carmia’s journey.
What is the purpose of this book?
To encourage and uplift, especially to help those who have experienced sexual abuse.
Are there themes that you find turn up again and again in your work? A common thread?
Yes, I find that past connections (decisions, actions, psychology, spirituality) are impacting the present and future in almost everything I’ve written.
Which character or part of the book was the most fun to write? Which part was the hardest?
My easy favorite is Mother Johns is my favorite because I love her Southern— previous generation language, her humor (although not trying to be funny), how mean she is, and how real she is. I love that we see her soft spots too. Hardest? Carmia, because of the pain expressed mostly through her psychological journey; but, also her physical abuse.
Can you tell us something that even your most loyal fans may not know about you?
I am a pretty good actress too.
