Book Spotlight – Sumthin’ T’ Say by Rose Jackson-Beavers

Which five words best describe Sumthin’ T’ Say?
Poetic, knowledgeable, opinionated, popular, engaging.

Can you share one highlight from the book?
The essays are engaging and relatable.

What is the purpose of this book?
It is the first book I wrote, and I wanted to share my feelings about various topics. I needed an avenue to express myself, so I did it through poetry and essays. I wanted others to experience the same thing, to know that they could be expressive without boundaries.

Are there themes that you find turn up again and again in your work?
Yes. It’s about living in our communities and the things we experience due to not having equal opportunities, dealing with love, pain, abuse, etc.

Which character or part of the book was the most fun to write?
When I first started, I enjoyed writing poetry. Many of the poems I recited after I did a workshop with teens or young adults.

Can you tell us something that even your most loyal fans may not know about you?
I started off writing poetry and eventually moved to articles, essays, and then to novels.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers? Try a new author this year; hopefully, it’s me.
