Act Like an Author, Think Like a Business 2021 Conference

Writers conferences or literary festivals, book fairs, and events geared toward the reader’s experience happen almost every day. But the premier publishing conference only happens once a year in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sure, those events geared more for the reader’s experience allow authors to connect with fans and supporters. And let’s face it; readers and those who support authors by purchasing their books are an author’s literary heartbeat. But authors have to be the brain of their literary businesses and careers.

Writing Prompt – by Liselle Powder

Writing Prompt – Your friend can’t wait to introduce you to her new beau. She’s been talking about him nonstop and you’re actually a little nervous to meet him. When he walks through the door your jaw drops , you would know that face anywhere………………..

Britney my friend for seven years always has my back, she’s very spontaneous, love life, nature and shopping. She’s like my biological sister. I never had. For some time now, she’s holding back a secret.

She eventually spilled the beans that she’s in love and been dating. She did catch me by surprised as she told me that. Britney was never the dating type, so I guessed that’s why she had excuses to meet up with me at times. Her new boyfriend kept her busy.

I am not seeing anyone. I am taking my time, waiting on the right one. So when Britney told me she have a surprise for me to meet her new beau, I am looking forward to this. I am up to meeting her Romeo and I am a bit nervous, but I am ready.

So, we planned to meet up tonight and everything is set. The restaurant of choice was perfect, nice atmosphere, nice people and beautiful service. I reached early and was taken to my set Brittney arrived and I could see there’s someone behind her but can’t make him out as if he is hiding., maybe Brittney told him too.

Just then as she moved from his path, my eyes were as big as soccer balls, my mouth was wide opened and my jaw dropped. I was Eddie he was my crush from high school, every girl wanted him, he was that good, in academics and sports, the best quarterback the school had.

After all these years my heart still felt something, we never broke up properly and seeing him brought back memories of good times.

As they approached me I stood up, our eyes met as if questioning each other, but I had to play it calm. Brittney introduced us and I told her congratulations and we all sat down. The night went by smoothly, and the conversations was good. Our eyes were searching each other as Brittney talked and talked.

Eventually Brittney asked me what I thought of him. I said he’s very handsome and he looks kind and the loving type.

I realized Eddie and myself had some unfinished business we never parted well. I started fantasizing about the both of us. I didn’t want to hurt my friend, but what you don’t know wouldn’t kill you. The night went on perfect. Britney was on a role, being all smiles. Eddie on the other hand was trying to catch a glance every chance he gets.

We talked up a storm, until I had to leave, the heat was too much. I bid farewell and the lingered stare from Eddie’s eyes, told me class will be in session soon.

Book Spotlight – The Badass Witch – Excellus O. Hyland

Which five words best describe The Badass Witch?

Intelligent, outspoken, ambitious, witty and bold.

Can you share one highlight from the book?

There’s a part in the book where Gwendolyn, the protagonist of the novel is brewing on a idea and she goes in on a philosophical level on an apples core and in that one piece of observation she demonstrates the comparison to the origin of a woman’s strength.

What is the purpose of this book?

The purpose of this book is to acknowledge women’s history and to share light on a woman’s accomplishments and struggles. Alpha is really a matriarch characteristics. And in honor of the 100yr anniversary of woman right to vote, I wrote ” The Badass Witch” to give her a new word for her tenacity and perseverance instead of a female dog. A bold, intelligent, outspoken and ambitious woman in medieval times was considered a witch. And once a woman was accused of being a witch sure death was her sentence. So the woman of today is that badass witch. And that’s what I want women to know.

Are there themes that you find turn up again and again in your work? A common thread?

The theme of this novel that recurs is the ambitious streak of each character.

Which character or part of the book was the most fun to write? Which part was the hardest?

Gwendolyn was the character that was fun to write about I felt I knew her and that all the women across the world knew her or knew of her and she is so badass in vulnerability and strength that is so sexy and appealing. But the har part of the book was in demonstrating how things are subject to change on our lives through this one character

Can you tell us something that even your most loyal fans may not know about you?

I suffer from anxiety that I assumed was OCD.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

This particular novel The Badass Witch is a classic novel and as of now a collective item. It’s in its first printing and if anyone knows about classic material like Gone With The Wind, it will be worth a zillion × more in the future, so it will be in any of you best interest to go cope my novel.

Writing Prompt- Out of the blue, I heard footsteps in the empty, dark street…..

This month, I ask writers to finish a writing prompt. The following is the writing prompt:

Out of the blue, I heard footsteps in the empty, dark street…..

Out of the blue, I heard footsteps in the empty, dark street! I knew that I was the only one walking my dog at that hour! No one else was there. So who is it and why? Am I being followed and for what reason? Normally, my dog, Ranger warns me of such peril! Had she not heard it because I know that I am not hallucinating or hearing things. Maybe, I am. Who knows? As a writer, I always looking around for something that I can not feel or see. Some sign or something that intrigues me! It’s crazy because I am fascinated and scared at the same time! It’s a crazy trait that I have developed lately. A vivid imagination of all sorts! I have two choices! I can hide behind the bushes to see what lurks in the dark. Or get back in the house to start brainstorming about a new story! For obvious safety reasons, I probably should take writing! As I walk home, I have all these creative ideas in my bed! I think I will title it “Footsteps in the dark.” Yeah, that has a nice ring to it. I think, lol!
