Raven Wright is the Founder and CEO of the Detroit non-profit organization, Urban Nature for Kids. Raven founded Urban Nature for Kids five years ago while attending Urban Planning graduate school at Wayne State University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and a Master’s in Urban Planning. Her main area of focus while attending graduate school was Geographic Information Systems. During graduate school, Raven taught elementary school (K-6) part-time. She was also employed as a GIS analyst for a capstone course with the Detroit non-profit organization, Focus Hope. During her experience as a teacher, Raven noticed that children who reside in low-income communities were not being exposed to Earth Science career fields. She also noticed that there was a lack of Earth Science education within elementary schools. Raven believes children can benefit from being exposed to Earth Science career fields at an early age, that is why she created and founded Urban Nature for Kids.
