Which five words best describe Primary Colours?
Experiential, Sensual, Personal, Engaging, Vivid
Can you share one highlight from the book?
One poem that arrived almost fully formed and continues to impact me ‘To See You’. While not autobiographical, it was largely inspired by various meet-up dinners with my daughter over the years. She now lives in England and while there is Zoom, physical conversation remains treasured in my family and serves to inspire plans for the future, and also just to reminisce.
Many readers have also singled it out to me which suggests its open-handed words have struck chords beyond my own. That it has made such an impact is just staggering to me.
What is the purpose of this book?
The book is a labor of love comprising a collection of poems composed over the past twenty years. It seeks to illustrate in words the impact of personal experiences regarding events, activities, and interactions during my life journey.
Are there themes that you find turn up again and again in your work? A common thread?
The use of colours and their interpretations regarding experienced emotions. Also the bond of family and the elements that glue that union.
Which character or part of the book was the most fun to write? Which part was the hardest?
The poems ‘Drink Up’ and ‘Maroons’ came in a rush with both triggered by a single sentence overheard. The experience was thrilling as it felt as if my hand was being used to urgently write these pieces for someone else.
Can you tell us something that even your most loyal fans may not know about you?
That I am also a Human Resource executive with a 29-year career😊
That I fancy myself a fine cook, an audiophile, and a cinephile, and participate in numerous sports.
That my greatest achievement is being a Dad.
