Book Spotlight – Candy From Heaven – Nathaniel Gasdsen

Tell us about your book Candy from Heaven.

Candy from Heaven is my first Children’s Book. The story is about appreciation, respect, and acceptance between a young neighborhood boy and a lonely elderly woman with a beautiful garden.

Why did you decide to write it?

I wrote this book because I was teaching in the After-School program of the Harrisburg School District in Pennsylvania, and I noticed how my “out-of-control” students reacted when we visited a nearby Senior Citizens Center. I noticed that when the elderly women talked to those students you could hear a pin drop. The students were so touched by the stories the women told, and the respect they showed was heart-warming. Candy From Heaven just came to me, and I had to write it.

What’s the best part of being an author?

The best part of being an author is that you get to tell the story the way you want to tell it. The worst part of being an Author is that a story is burning inside of you and you let it slip away!

Who is your favorite character in the book, and why?

Michael because he is innocent and optimistic.

What was the hardest part of writing the story?

The hardest part of writing the story was keeping it simple, straightforward, and not “preachy” or complicated.

If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

I answered these questions in my response to “Learning Self-Therapy Through Writing.”: Book about my life – Something readers would be surprised to know about me – What am I currently working on?

Do you have anything else you would like to add?

In the future, I plan to write at least nine more Children’s books.
