How do you get the idea for your book?
Well, it’s actually because of my fascination with serial killers and understanding how they work, what makes them tick and how do they hide in plain sight. The fascination started with Jeffrey Dahmer. Being from Milwaukee, when the story broke of this serial killer when I was a teen and listening to the descriptors used to describe him, started my journey into the mind of a serial killer. Later in life, I interned as a social worker investigating child abuse and neglect.
What is your favorite line from your book question?
I got flips, lips, and twirls.
Which of your characters do you believe are most like you and why question?
Shevron is probably most like me in the sense that she wants to help other and make a difference. She also was raised in a family of boys and has a degree in Social Work. That’s the extent of our similarities.
What message do you hope readers will take away from your book?
There’s a message in every book that I write. In the Whispers in the Dark series- I tackle child abuse, sexual assault/rape. I want people to understand that it’s not stranger danger- these acts are usually committed by someone you know. I also want people to understand rape is not about sex, it’s about power over another person.
How did you get published?
I self-published through Lulu.
What have been your greatest literary accomplishments?
My first accomplishment in the literary world was having a poem of mine published at the age of 12 in the Library of Congress. But my greatest literary accomplishment is being an author.
Do you have any new books in the works?
I do- several- another nonfiction and the prequel to Whispers in the Dark.
