Best-selling author, S.N.M. Jones was born in Milwaukee, WI. She has a Bachelor of Social Work and Masters in Human Services specializing in Social and Community Program. She actively volunteers in the community and sits on the board for Tomorrow’s Cultivating Youth (TCYouth), Inc. TCYouth Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving the youth. She currently resides in Virginia with her husband, son, and dog, Freedom.
–What is your genre?
What draws you to this genre? I write thrillers/suspense/horror and nonfiction. I love horror and felt that there was a void of Black authors in the horror/thriller/suspense category. I was drawn to nonfiction simply because I believe we should take back our narratives. I’m tired of someone else writing our stories and telling what they perceive to be our truths…
-What is your purpose?
I believe that my purpose in life to help others, particularly the youth. I love volunteering and want to make a difference in my community and affect change.
-Who has influenced your life as an author?
My earlier influence was Stephen King. To this day, he still is one of my favorite authors. But as far as influence my life as an author. Life itself influences me. I started writing as an outlet and it continues to be so.
-What is your favorite marketing technique?
How do you get your book in front of readers? I am still learning marketing, but one thing that I have learned is to invest in apps like Hootsuite and Canva. But my favorite marketing technique is live in person events. I am a friendly individual and I like people, so anytime I get to interact- I love it- so book clubs, book fairs, etc. I use every viable means within my budget to get my books in front of readers- social media helps a lot, podcasts, interviews, etc.
