Book Spotlight – Moment of Truth – Michelle D Rayford

Tell us about your book Moment of Truth.

Adrienne is obsessed with the new man in her life – the bouncing baby boy she’s always dreamt of having…over her husband Logan’s staunch objections. Motherhood. Wealth. Power. On the surface, the joyful mother has it all – but beneath the bliss, a scandal is brewing that will rip her contentment to shreds.

Logan’s professional aspirations leave little room for marriage, family…or guarding his secrets. He’s laser-focused on surpassing his father’s success in the family law firm, and when an affluent new client breezes into town, Logan has one shot to overtake his father…if his wife will get out of his way.

When the past collides with the present, will the truth set Adrienne free?

Why did you decide to write it?Most of my stories start with a question. Moment of Truth started with this one: What if a woman married the wrong man for the right reasons? Once I had my main character, Adrienne, the story flowed from her dilemma.

What’s the best part of being an author? The best part of being an author is getting to tell stories. I love putting words down on paper and getting the characters out of my head onto the page. It’s especially rewarding when some aspect of your book resonates with readers and they let you know.

What’s the worst part of being an author? This may sound cliche but even the more challenging aspect of being an author isn’t that bad. For me, the marketing aspect of it is more challenging. Being self-published, it’s a constant battle to get your book in front of as many people as possible. But it helps to come up with creative ways to get your story out there.

Who is your favorite character in the book, and why? I have two favorite characters. Adrienne and her sister Kim. Their relationship reminds me of the one I have with my own sisters.

What was the hardest part of writing the story? The hardest part may have been trying to make sure the antagonist in the story, Adrienne’s husband, Logan wasn’t all bad. I wanted to show his motivations for some of his bad behavior.

If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be and why? The title would be Invisible No More. For a long time, I let fear stop me from pursuing my dream. Putting this book out into the world was terrifying and freeing at the same time. It was something I needed to do for myself and I’ll so glad I did.

What is something readers would be surprised to know about you? I’m a huge NBA basketball fan and since I didn’t grow past 5’7″, I live my basketball dreams playing NBA2k on my phone.

What are you currently working on right now?I have a few things I’m working on. My next full length is about 75% done. I’m completing a novella with another author that will be out later this year. And I have a couple of short stories brewing waiting on me to make time to complete.

Do you have anything else you would like to add?

This was my first book baby, the first story I released into the world.  I’ve always been a writer but this book allowed me to call myself an author.
