Author Spotlight – Michelle D. Rayford

ABOUT MICHELLE D. RAYFORD

Her pen sharpens spine-tingling tales of betrayal, lies, consequences…and their fallout when the truth comes out. Fitting for her brand of literary inspiration – shining the light in the darkness of deceit.

National Best-selling Author Michelle D. Rayford is a doting wife, rocking mother and the dynamic CEO of Barrington Drive Publishing. The seed for Michelle’s gift of storytelling was planted well before she was old enough to drive…now this talented scribe is driven to INSPIRE. Her red-hot keyboard has cranked out hits for several anthologies, as well as her soulful debut novel – Moment of Truth and the chilling Not That Nice. Her latest book, Settling Up, is scheduled to come blasting onto reading lists everywhere in 2020.

Michelle’s laptop is housed in the colorful south, where she resides with her husband, who she’s spent half her life crushing on, and two daughters who push her to keep the dream going. When she’s not reading, jamming to her 80’s music playlist or playing NBA2K, Michelle is hard at work, hanging out with her vivid imagination, developing stories about the messy parts of relationships and the aftermath of declaring I do. She loves chatting with readers and book clubs; reach out to her at mdrayford@gmail.com or through her website – http://www.michelledrayford.com.

Michelle D. Rayford – driving readers to literary pleasure!

What is your genre? What draws you to this genre?

I consider myself a Contemporary Fiction and Women’s Fiction writer although I inspire to branch out into multiple genres to include thrillers. I’m drawn to write stories that I like to read.

What is your purpose?

My purpose with writing is to inspire and entertain. I want to create characters that people can relate to. I love reading books where the characters linger long after the story has ended.

Who has influenced your life as an author?

Early on, I admired Maya Angelou. I read I Know Why the Caged Bird sings at least a dozen times. Once I got serious about learning the craft of writing, I’ve been fortunate to be mentored and or learned from some awesome authors. Victoria Christopher Murray, Rhonda McKnight and Naleighna Kai to name a few.

What is your favorite marketing technique? How do you get your book in front of readers?

I started blogging several years ago so I would have to say that I enjoy participating with blogs and book reviewers. (Shameless suck up.😉) Really, I appreciate talking directly to readers. Of course, social media is a great marketing tool although I’m not the type to post something all the time.

What is something you want readers to know about you?

I’m just a woman learning how to pursue her dreams in spite of the fear. This past year has taught us all that time is not promised to anyone. If there is something you’ve always dreamed of doing, do it now.

What are you reading right now?

I just finished “Reel” by Kennedy Ryan. Excellent novel.

3 Fun facts about yourself

1. I love 80’s & 90’s music

2. I relax by reading a book or playing NBA2k video game

3. I once knew all the moves to Janet Jackson’s Pleasure Principle video
