Catch a Falling Star is the second short in the Carver High series. This is the romance between the school’s science teacher/track coach and the man she let get away years ago. Mae Richards’s track career was inspired by real-life track superstar, Allyson Felix.
The main characters (Mae and Harrison) were track stars in college. They were very good friends and shared a common interest in amateur astronomy. When Harrison proposed marriage under the stars, Mae rejects him for a frat boy. That was a bad decision, but by the time she realizes it, her one true love was long gone. Years later, their paths reconnect. Is it too late for a second chance at love?
I enjoyed writing this story because of it was another opportunity to delve into a story with a strong female lead in search of romance. Mae is recovering from past hurt. The bad-boy love story didn’t end well. And she’s also trying to rekindle her connection with the God who promised to always be there for her.
I want people to understand that God is all about giving us second chances. Sometimes that second chance is right over the horizon. We just have to hold on.
