The Book That Changed Danyelle Scroggins’ Life

I am Danyelle, the Senior Pastor of New Vessels Ministries and author of Christian fiction and non-fiction books. I have a Masters in Religious Education from Liberty University and own Divinely Sown Publishing, LLC. My husband Reynard is a pastor, and together we have five beautiful adult children.

What book changed your life?

The book that is still changing and challenging my life, pushing me to live holy and with integrity, is the Bible. I love the Life Application Study Bible as it has become one of my favorite go to tools for preaching.

How did this book impact your life?

When I finally stop using it as a dust collector—in my house, or as a passenger—in my car that only came out until on Sundays, the words began to speak life to me. It’s like I was sitting on a gold mine but still living broke and broken because I was too caught up in me and life circumstances to take the time to read the BOOK. When I finally became an active reader, I began to embrace principles and precepts that pushed me into purpose.

What lesson did you take from this book?

I’m still getting lessons every time I pick it up. No matter how many times I read it, I see something different. It’s like my eyes missed that the first time, but I know it has more to do with my spiritual ability to comprehend more than with my physical abilities to see.
One of my favorite lessons is the woman at the well found in John 4. I love this because I could see myself in her. Hidden by oppression, struggling with freedom from sin, pretending I’m not hiding, but claiming I didn’t want to be bothered. Then one day, Jesus made a special appointment to stop by my way, and my life has never been the same. My goal since then has been to tell someone about a Man who knew all about me. He loved me just as I was, but the more I began to love Him, the less I loved the sins. Now I recognize the changes He made in Danyelle.
