Snippet- Twisted Tales of the Heart- Preston
“You got my message last night, Preston.”
Preston stood still, almost in a state of shock mixed with panic as Stephanie stood in the middle of his driveway. “Stephanie, what are you doing here?” he asked in a cold tone. “We have an agreement.
Preston watched Stephanie as she moved closer to his front door, closer to him.
“What agreement? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about, Stephanie.” You’re not supposed to come to my house; the house that I share with Don!” he said, a bit too loudly.
“The house you share with Don,” Stephanie mocked. “Well, I am the mother of your child and I should be able to come here anytime I want.”
Preston stared at Stephanie, choosing to remain quiet.
“If you want to keep spending time with Jordan, then I suggest you act like you have some sense.”
“Stephanie, please leave. I have to go to work, and I am running late as it is,” he pleaded.
Stephanie laughed loudly. “I’m not going anywhere until I’m good and damn ready to go!” she answered. “You can’t make—”
“Shhh! Lower your voice,” Preston interrupted, looking back at the door.
“Why? You don’t want your little boyfriend to know that your son’s mother is here?”
Preston smiled as he waved at his neighbor. “Good Morning, Ms. Mary,” he called out. “How are you doing today?”
“Good Morning, Preston,” his neighbor responded while grabbing her newspaper.
“You can’t speak to me?” Stephanie harshly blurted out to Preston’s neighbor.
The elderly neighbor frowned and shook her head and headed back into her house.
“Stephanie that was uncalled for.
“Well, I am standing here too. She could’ve spoken to me.”
“Look, Stephanie, I really need—”
“Why is she here?” Donald asked, interrupting Preston’s plea.
“Well, well, well, look who decided to come out and enjoy the party,” Stephanie sarcastically said as she rolled her eyes.
Preston put his head down and Donald had a look of pure disgust on his face.
“Donald, let me explain something to you,” Stephanie said with a hint of anger in her voice. “Preston and I belong together. We have a five-year-old son together who needs both parents in the same house. You do understand that, right?”
Preston sighed and continued to keep his head down. I wish she would just leave, he thought to himself.
“Um, Stephanie, I am well aware that you two share a son but that’s all you share,” Donald calmly responded. “Now, I suggest you get off our property before I call the police.”
Preston looked up, glancing around to see if more neighbors had come out to catch a glimpse of the drama that was unfolding.
Stephanie laughed loudly. “I’m not going anywhere. Not until I talk some sense into my baby daddy’s head.”
“Okay, have it your way,” Donald said. “The police will escort you off my property.” Donald pulled his phone out of his pocket, placing his keys onto the porch swing.
In a blink of an eye, Preston watched Stephanie leap onto Donald, turning into a woman possessed, kicking and thrashing around.
Q: Does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart?
A: Yes. Amanda (Story 1) Because she is a single parent who has to go through so much to take care of her son. Persecution from her son’s father and his family is one of the major things.
Q: What was the inspiration for the story?
A: Life lessons and hardships
Q: What is the key theme/message in the book?
A: Intuition, internal warnings, and second thoughts are real! Go with it!!
Q: What do you hope your readers take away from the book?
A: Great read, provoking thoughts, and wanting more!
Q: What is the significance of the title?
A: Twisted Tales of the Heart- So many feelings of dealing with the heart but the ways to the heart are all twisted.
Q: Tell us about the process of coming up with the title?
A: The main thing was the color! Red evokes anger and angry emotions… a lot of that is in the book
Q: What is the future of the characters? Will there be a sequel?
A: Yes! Each storyline will have their own stories! *Preston’s full story will release January 2021!!
Q: Do you write listening to music?
A: No, but I do have a fan blowing in the background.
Q: Was the writing process different and what challenges did you face when writing the book?
A: No, my process is pretty much the same. Spend no less than an hour per day working on it. My challenge was writing Story # 3/ (The Gregg Family) Hard to incorporate children in such a dark space.
Q: What was the highlight of writing this book?
A: Playing around with Preston and Donald’s chemistry.
