Book Spotlight: When the Vows Break – Janie DeCoster

Five words to best describe When The Vows Break?

1) Though-Provoking

2) Spiritual

3) Surprising

4) Realistic

5) Intriguing

Can you share one highlight from the book?

Yes, one highlight from the book is Pastor Sidney Teal and his faith in God. He is truly ordained and is committed to his calling in spite of his earthly desire for the young woman Yasmin.

What is the purpose of this book?

The purpose of When The Vows Break is to give readers an inside look of each character as they react to the issues of infidelity in a spiritual setting. And also to ask the question do we hold our spirituals leaders to a higher standard than the rest of us?

Are there themes that you find turn up again and again in your work? A common thread?

Yes, the common thread would be grace. Grace because betrayal in any marriage is devastating but when you are a part of a ministry that portrays righteousness and integrity the downfall lingers and dem one’s light to the world. We need grace because at the end of the day we all are sinners and we all at some point fall down. Maybe not with infidelity but in other avenues of our lives.

Which character or part of the book was the most fun to write? Which part was the hardest?

The part which was the most fun for me to write is the conversation between the First lady Olivia and her mother-in-law about the signs of a cheating husband.  Her mother-in-law answers were comical yet serious.

Now the hardest part was the ending of the book. I wasn’t certain how I wanted Pastor Teal to face the consequences of his actions concerning his congregation and the respect and devotion they had for him.

Can you tell us something that even your most loyal fans may not know about you?

That I am crazy about homemade chocolate chip cookies fresh out the oven.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Its been a wonderful journey of being a writer even with the ups and downs we authors go through. But it is our readers who keep our fire burning.  And I would like to thank everyone who took a chance and picked up a copy of any of my novels. Thanks immensely for your support and God Bless!
