Today I have Author J Brinkley on my channel today. Please welcome Author J.
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
A: Who is J. Brinkley? I am an Independent Author. I was born in Georgia and raised in Tift County. My writing talent manifested in my teen years but I didn’t start taking it seriously until I reached my early twenties. I fell in love with writing in the genres of urban fiction, Suspense, and urban romance. I developed my talent by taking the relevant college courses that honed not only my writing skills but also knowledge in various fields such as Theosophy and Business. My book, Revenge, won the 2019 Urban Book of the Year Award, by the AAMBC. I later founded (Voice of My Ancestors) Voma Publications LLC. My unconventional philosophies about life and love are a gift that ought to be shared with the world via writing.
Q: What do you do when you are not writing?
A: Reading, listening to music, researching African history or sharing the knowledge I have about multiple topics.
Q: Do you have a day job as well?
Q: When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
A: I think I started tears of evidence around 2010 but didn’t finish it until around 2015.
Q: How did you choose the genre you write in?
A: Actually, I didn’t. I just wrote what I was experiencing and after I had written a few books, I realized the genre I was writing in.
Q: Where do you get your ideas?
A: From my experiences and from what I see.
Q: Do you ever experience writer’s block?
Q: Do you work with an outline, or just write?
A: Both ( pen & Paper and with device )
Q: Is there any author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?
A: Eric Jerome Dickey, Omar Tyree, John Grisham and James Patterson.
Q: Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?
A: I didn’t have a hard time. I met a friend who turned me on to Life After Death Publications. I completed my three book deal. Got signed by a major company but didn’t release any material because of the company’s negligence. I had done my part. I end up taking the self-publishing route.
Q: If you had to go back and do it all over, is there any aspect of your novel or getting it published that you would change?
Q: How do you market your work? What avenues have you found to work best for your genre?
A: Amazon ad, Facebook ads, Bookbub ads, Instagram ads, and of course word of mouth.
Q: Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?
Q: Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
A: I have projects that I’m working on at the moment. I’m taking my time on them. My last two projects are, O’Shay & Sanaa 2 ( Suspense Thriller) and Unfailing Love. There will be a part two and maybe a part three to unfailing love. If you have read either book then you are missing out.
Q: Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
Q: What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
A: That’s a hard question because I take pride in my work. I really don’t have a favorite part. I try to make each story unique in its own right. Read my books and you will see what I mean.
Q: How did you come up with the title?
A: I normally think about the morale of the story then make my decision.
Q: What project are you working on now?
A: As I mentioned earlier, I’m working on three projects. I’ll rather not speak on them just yet. I’m not sure how i want to release them. I also don’t know when I will be finished with them. Either way, just know they will good.
Q: Will you have a new book coming out soon?
A: This is my goal but there can be a delay.
Q: How can your readers find you?
