Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m Venita Alderman; an author, blogger, entrepreneur (4-5 Essentials) and mother. I love to drink tea, cook and read books. I have always been creative so painting, making personalized items and gift baskets are some of my passions. #CreativityUnleashed
What do you do when you are not writing?
I’m apart of Victorious Ladies Reading book club, I’m newly married, and working on other endeavors.
Do you have a day job as well?
I do, I work full time as an Operations Manager.
When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
I’ve written short stories, poems, etc. for years. My first published work was a short story in March 2016.
How did you choose the genre you write in?
I haven’t. My books, journals or planner is specific to a certain genre.
Where do you get your ideas?
It’s a mixture of mine and other people’s experiences with a little bit of made up stuff.
Do you ever experience writer’s block?
No, I haven’t experienced it. However, there are days that I don’t feel like writing, so I’ll do something else I enjoy for a day or two and then come back to it.
Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I normally just write, I’m trying to get in the habit of doing an outline.
Is there any author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?
This is a tricky question. I have a lot of authors that I enjoy their writing style as an adult. When I was younger, I can’t think of reading a book and saying because of that person or story I wanted to be an author. It was my fifth-grade teacher that was influential about my writing.
Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?
I decided to self-publish. I wouldn’t call them challenges, I’m going to call them lasting lessons. LOL.
If you had to go back and do it all over, is there any aspect of your novel or getting it published that you would change?
No, I believe that things happen the way they should in order for you to learn and grow.
How do you market your work?
What avenues have you found to work best for your genre? I’m navigating through social media. I attend events. I know I need to do better with putting myself out there.
Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?
Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
Online Secrets, The Aftermath: Tiffany and Wade Gentry are getting divorced and parents of three young adult daughters; Casmine, Payton and Janelle. Tiffany is enjoying her new-found freedom and new restaurant. Casmine, Payton and Janelle have very strong and different opinions about their parents getting divorced. Wade is trying to reinvent himself and start his own law firm. Can Wade be redeemed after the sweet sensation website? Will Tiffany give him another chance? Will the Gentry daughters side with their mom, dad, neither or both?
The Aftermath is explosive!
Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
It’s a mixture of my experiences and/or people I know with a little imagination.
What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
The Prologue is my favorite part to write. I like seeing how I’m going to get to that part of the story and what’s going to happen afterwards.
How did you come up with the title?
Online Secrets, The Aftermath was easy. Since the first book was Online Secrets… This was just the consequence of what happened.
What project are you working on now?
I’m finishing up my novella, Online Secrets, The Aftermath. It should be available in August. This is the follow-up to my first short story Online Secrets.
Will you have a new book coming out soon?
Yes, I plan on releasing Book 2 from The Family of Secrets trilogy this year as well.
