Today on the blog I have the Author Yolanda Randolph. Please welcome Yolanda.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Yolanda Randolph and I am the creator of the #Her Intuition Movement. A movement which encourages women to always pay attention to their intuition; their inner voice. It also reminds women of their powerful inner strength and to dig deep within themselves to find it.
What do you do when you are not writing?
When I am not writing, I am reading, spending time with my children, and/or spending time outside (lover of nature).
Do you have a day job as well?
I am also a medical coder!
When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
I began to write when my husband abruptly left me. It was a way to cope with my feelings. I finished my very first novel, Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, three months after my heartbreak. May 2018!!
How did you choose the genre you write in?
I chose women’s fiction because I want to help and inspire all women to be at their best as well as entertain. The best way to escape from your problems, in my opinion, is to read a great story!
Where do you get your ideas?
My life! I get all of my ideas for my stories from the life that I’ve lived and the life that I am living.
Do you ever experience writer’s block?
Writer’s block happens from time to time for me. When it does, I walk away for a little bit and then come back (I don’t stay away too long )
Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I just write. Haven’t used an outline…yet.
Is there any author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?
Well, my biggest influencers are authors Reshonda Tate Billingsley and Victoria Christopher Murray because they embody power and passion in all of their work.
Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?
My biggest challenge with getting my first book published was the fact that no one wanted to take a chance on a new author so…I created my own company, RettieBooks and published it myself. All of my women’s fiction books are published through RettieBooks.
If you had to go back and do it all over, is there any aspect of your novel or getting it published that you would change?
No! I would change absolutely nothing about my writing and publishing journey. I accept all the challenges and struggles as they make me who I am.
How do you market your work? What avenues have you found to work best for your genre?
Social media is what I use to market my work.
Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?
Everything I write, I fall in love with . Thankfully, I haven’t had any challenges with publishing any of my books. (I have many that I’ve written, just holding them…for now)
Can you tell us about your upcoming book?
I have a new teen book releasing in the fall of 2019. My Mysteries of Harriet High series. The Secret of Twila Anderson 2. The Secret of Twila Anderson (part 1) was released in March 2019.
Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
Most of the story lines in my books are based on real life experiences. I have a wild imagination, so I throw it in there and mix it all together to make great stories!
What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
My entire book is my favorite part! I love my work .
How did you come up with the title?
My grandmother, Pearl, used to say…Baby, he’s a wolf in Sheep’s Clothing. That’s how my title was born.
What project are you working on now?
I am currently working on two projects… Part 2 of my teen series (Mysteries of Harriet High) and another great women’s fiction called Twisted Tales of the Heart (releasing in December 2019)- check out the preview in the back of my book, Eyes of the Enemy (available on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and my website..
